The City of Westminster operates the biggest public parking operation in Europe and so it's pretty much always in the public eye. I have already reported on their recent woes; Officers were investigated and cleared, of irregularities in handling the current street parking contract and then they had a legal challenge to the retendering process. So they decided to run the whole process again. The re-run has been completed, the legal challenge dismissed and the tender awarded, but this time to a different company. This process has apparently cost the City over a million pounds in costs so far but they are a long way from being free and clear. The councillor in charge of all this has stepped down from this job and surprise, surprise; the people who won the first round are back in court crying foul. We now have a competition with two winners and whoever finally gets handed the contract there are a lot of people out there who have spent a lot of time and money and a lot of lawyers who are eying the Porsche catalogues. Can't see a good way out of this and I suspect that some of the guys in Westminster might be looking at the help wanted pages with more than just academic interest round about now.
